"I came home and I don't think my mum recognised me because I was talking more like a brother than a surfer. "I like low-maintenance girls. Life's too short, and the biggest curse is falling in love with somebody. That's the bottom line. It sounds horrible. So, you pray you fall in love with someone that's fairly low-maintenance. I don't require a whole lot. There are people who fall in love for all the right reasons with people who are extremely high-maintenance, but I try to avoid the high-maintenance ones. That sounds horrible what I just said, doesn't it?"

"I love beautiful women, but there aren't many out there who can get all dolled-up and look really good but at the same time will be willing to just head out on the weekend, go camping and maybe not shower for 2 days. I like a girl who loves animals and loves children, that's my kinda girl."

"I worked all the time as a child, but I wanted to be normal and play sports and I had a girlfriend."

"I worked for UPS for a while. I worked for a couple for a couple surf shops."

"I've been surfing my whole life and I'll continue to do it, but lately my focus has just been cowboy."

"I grew up spear fishing. I've lived in California my whole life. I can hold my breath for a real long time."

"I'm working with Jessica Alba (his co-star in Into The Blue) who in my opinion, is one of the most unbelievable women alive to look at."

"She's (Jessica Alba) really sweet and we're getting along really well. I'm looking forward to going down and working with her."

"I think the future's scary so I try not to think about the future too much to be honest with you. I only know in 40 years we're going to double the world's current population if we continue the course we're on. That's a scary thought."

"I have this horrible recurring dream about the future. Alot of it is my background. I studied marine biology. When it comes to the status of Mother Nature and pollutants and hacking down rainforests, I'm really sensitive to that stuff."

"I'm a walking contradiction because I like to race cars and racecars pollute like nothing else. I'm aware of that."

"The lights are always off in my house. I never run electricity that I don't need to. When I see a light on, I think, oh shit. There's smoke going out in the world now because of me. I don't like that."

"My showers are like two minutes. I'm in and out. That's my biggest pet peeve. I can't stand people that take 20-30 minute showers."

"When it comes to science fiction, I like Star Wars. I love The Matrix."

"Her (Meadow) mother (Rebecca) said she was laughing the whole time. (when she was watching 2 Fast 2 Furious). She couldn't believe it. Because she was watching her dad, not the movie."

"It's a real rush to have people come up to you on the street and ask when you're going to make another Fast And The Furious movie."

"Even though he's (Vin Diesel) a real serious guy, we had alot of fun making The Fast And The Furious."

"Tyrese is an incredible guy."

"I've been a huge racing fan for as long as I can remember."

"People keep telling me what a fool I was to say no (to playing the role of Clark Kent in Superman) but I feel I already have my franchise movie in The Fast And The Furious."

"I may not be Ben Affleck wealthy but I have more than enough to meet my needs."

"I didn't marry Meadow's mother because I was none of those things (mature and more responsible) at the time she was born."

"I want to get married. It's important to me. I think about it alot. But I also think about my cars. I have 7 now, soon to be 11 -- so maybe my priorities aren't exactly in line just yet."

"Growing up, one of my favourite things to do was pretend to be a knight, every stick was a sword."

"It's critical to work with a director who has alot of confidence. Richard Donner (director of Timeline) is never afraid to say 'that sucked, do it like this.'"

"To my 15-year-old brother I'm the coolest guy in the world. He begs and pleads for me to just pick him up at school so he can show me off."

"There are days I wake up and want to just do this for another year, then I can just concentrate on being dad. But then there are days when I think I can't quit. I love this too much."

"Damn it, I want to go play cowboy."

"I don't have long-term plans or goals. I just want to enjoy it. I try to keep it as simple as possible, and I really just live one day at a time. There are days I wake up and I go,"You know what, I am only going to do this for another year and then I will be done and I can just concentrate on being dad and that sort of thing." But then there are other times where I go, "You know, who am I kidding? I can't do that. I love this too much."

"I really had a good time with The Fast and The Furious and Varsity Blues. I really loved Jon Voight, and I hope to work with that guy again."

"Pleasantville, was like, a great experience for me. You appreciate them all for different reasons, but when it comes to just fun and having a good time, I would say probably Varsity Blues."

"I've been horseback riding. I'm a cowboy now. I grew up in Southern California, so everyone thinks of me as a surfer guy because I do surf alot as well, but mainly I have just been horseback riding alot, alot of trail riding."

"I love martial arts. I have been training alot on mixed martial arts. I race cars. That's pretty much what I do with my downtime."

"I want to do a Western desperately."

"I pretty much eat whatever I want, but my mother always cooked real healthy. So I've always without even thinking, I always eat. But I eat alot. I consume probably close to 4,000 calories a day."

"I have alot of nervous energy and I think that burns alot."

"I've always had this fascination with the medieval period."

"I wasn't supposed to see Excalibur when I saw it. My father had it on tape. I remember coming and seeing it because it's kind of racy. I was raised Mormon and my parents didn't want me seeing PG-13 or R type stuff, although I don't think PG-13 rating was even around then. But I remember sneaking it and watching it and that was so awesome."

"I loved Ladyhawke (directed by Timelime director Richard Donner). I love fantasy, I love knights and wizards and barbarians and all that sort of thing. I love Braveheart. I love those types of movies, so the science-fiction aspect of this really wasn't attractive. Medieval France? That's awesome."

"Everything to me is like a sport."

"I'm a pretty open-minded person and I'm pretty sensitive."

"We've (Paul and his daughter's mother) been friends forever. We've known each other for a long time. We both love each other very much and it's important to her that I'm a part of my daughter's life, so when I'm in town or when I'm on location, she just makes sure that I get to spend as much time with her as possible. With my schedule, you can't really set anything. It can't be too regimented. Everything has to be loose. She has to be more patient and really understanding, and fortunately enough for me, she is."

"Right now she's (Meadow's mother) in Hawaii and I'm running around, I'm doing my thing. She doesn't like the life that I live."

"You just laugh at it. It feels good. (When teenage girls fawn over him) I mean, look, girls are cute. I'm 30 now and she's 15 and she still thinks I'm attractive. That's good."

"Just smile and you make eye contact and you give them (fans) a hug and you do all that stuff. You just do. It feels good. I mean,"Oh God, it just sucks everywhere I go, people find me." Shit, don't go to the mall. Give me a break. Shop on Rodeo Drive one more time, you know what I mean? Come on. You go where people are, people are going to recognize you. I don't want to hear you snivel. You've got an assistant, dammit. Send her if you don't want to go shopping."

"I'm renting a place right now in Santa Monica (Webmistress note: he's living there currently!). I lived out in Huntington Beach with some friends, but I just go through my life and I just play oblivious. The only thing is when those people do come up from time to time and they go,"Hey, what's going on?" You talk to them for a couple of minutes and they go."

"I avoid magazine stands. I don't look at that stuff and I pleaded with my friends and family, like if you read anything this or that, just know that 50% of it's probably BS and I don't want to hear any of it. And that's how I live my life."

"I think about it (being stereotyped) from time to time, but the truth is I love doing the kind of movies that I'm doing right now. I love it. And you get paid pretty well to do them. They're fun. More than anything the most important thing to me is just be on movies that people love, people like to see. Like Fast & The Furious isn't the kind of movie I want to go and watch, but there was time that it was. I love kids coming up to me, whether they're 15, 16, 17, maybe maybe 25 years old, coming up to me going,"Man, The Fast & The Furious, I love those movies" and you see the twinkle in their eye and you just know there's no BS there. They mean it when they say it. That's what's really good."

"I would have to (do a 3rd Fast & The Furious). All these kids who think Vin Diesel's such a pr*ck for not doing a sequel. I wouldn't want them badmouthing me."

(Paul is planning to direct his own film, a western, but no info as when filming will begin. It sounds like it's going to be along the same idea as "Unforgiven"): "I've been pounding on doors. Director John Dahl - I did Joyride with - he told me he really wanted to do a western, so I chased him down. I think it's going to happen next year (2005)."

Casting for Timeline: "I went in, met with Richard Donner and he is like, "No, you would be Chris." I was so bummed out. I thought Chris is such a dork. I was like, "I don't want to be that guy." But I met him (Donner) on several occasions and they managed to convince me and I wanted to work with him desperately."

"He (Tyrese) needs to do whatever he can to tone-up so I figured if I had muscles it just wouldn't be fair to him - he wouldn't have a chance! So I let him win the muscle category! But I've told him that if we do a third one, I'm going to come bigger. I'm going to start lifting weights. So he's going to have to pull something else out of his bag of tricks."

(Rob Cohen refers to Paul as a leopard compared to Vin Diesel's bear for their roles in the F&TF.) Paul replies: "I like that too! Pound for pound the leopard is the strongest cat in the world. He days that I move like a cat. It started when we were filming, because there were scenes where I have to scale a building, and drop down a skylight."

(Paul on the question if motorways in Germany are attractive to him): "Absolutely! Why else do you think I wanted to stay in Berlin a few days longer so desperately? To really speed down a motorway in a Porsche GT2! Unfortunately, there was no time. That gets on my nerves... really."

"To be honest with you, I don't think things have really changed that much. I mean, I get a few more offers and so on but as far as being recognised and loss of privacy, I don't really experience that too much."

"I don't spend a whole lot of time in Hollywood, you know, I show up there for work. Other than I'm usually hanging out with my family, doing things I did when I was a kid, surfing and so on, so things haven't changed that much. That's no joke. More offers, a little more work, I'm getting paid a little more, that's really the only difference..."

"On "The Fast & The Furious", I worked with some of the best technical advisors in the world. I was always picking their brains, so by the end of it, I knew exactly what car I wanted. I had it fixed up and I race it now. I do drag racing, a quarter mile in a straight line. I'm getting bored with it, so I'm gonna start doing road-course. It's a good stepping-stone, though. With drag-racing, the trick is knowing when and how to shift."

Comments on "Into The Blue": "There's alot of diving and it's really sexy. It's bound to be with Jessica Alba and Ashley Scott in it. This is a movie that will definetly play on my demographics. My fans are going to eat it up." (Webmistress note: Tell me about it!! =D)

"I don't want to do the part of a surfer role because that would mean I'd essentially be playing myself, and there's no challenge in that."

Paul on clothes: "I got this t-shirt for free for some promotion or other. My runners, which are my favourite brand cost and I never pay more than for a pair of jeans."

(Interviewer: Since you're into sports, do you prefer to date a girl who is, too?): "Yes, but she has to be feminine. I love a real feminine girl who's capable of hanging out with boys. Friends grow up and get older, and I want to have a family. So, I want the wifey along and do those things with me."

(Interviewer: What other qualities do you look for in a girl?): "I'm not the kind of guy who thinks girls aren't to fart, spit and burp in front of me, I actually find it endearing and cute." (Webmistress note: Woohoo!!)

(Interviewer: So, what can't she do?): "I hate girls who name-drop and are into labels. I'm pretty damn selective. Before I take her out, I get the background check."

(What would you be doing if you weren't an actor?): "Probably buying property and probably building custom homes for myself in the south of France and live there for a year or two, than start building something else, somewhere else."

"I was kind of weird in high school, though, because I played all the sports yet my hair was always down to my shoulders. I had like, hair wraps, you know, you've seen 'em, all like Rasta style. And I always wore 501s and they were usually holey and I just had stuff written all up and down 'em. I had 'Peace, Love and Happiness', you know? I thought I was a hippie, bro. I wore Birkenstocks everyday. I went to a Christian High School, so I was pretty funky. The teachers didn't give me a hard time, though, even though I was totally way out of line in terms of my dress code. But they dug me though, so I got away with it. I was above in terms of my dress code. But they dug me though, so I got away with it. I was above the law."

(Paul says this is the reason he got the Nissan Skyline): "It's really just kinda to scare my drawers off, you know? I like scaring myself. That's why I like that car."

(Paul says he did this too as a baby): "Did Mattel ads with what I think they called Soft Stuff, like foam airplanes they made for like toddlers. I did a bunch of in house ads for that."

"I just keep everything coy and my personal life is something where i don't even want to see my brother's name in printed. It makes me annoyed."

"I've had underwear handed to me, like bras that sort of thing. You get them tucked in your pocket a lot. You know, where you put you're hand in and then discover they're in there!"

"A school teacher turns me on. It's so hot when a woman is smart as hell and wants to help kids."

"It's what you have to say and how you treat people that matters. 'Playing dumb' for a guy is dumb... show off your brains and heart!"

"I grew up surfing, skateboarding, snowboarding and doing all that sorta thing and I've always had an interest in cars. My grandfather actually raced cars back in the day."

"I think Aussies are probably the craziest people on earth, in a good sense."

"I think all animals can sense fear, so when I'm in the water with the sharks, I just try and stay as relaxed as possible and control my breathing."

"There have been times when my heart has been pounding in my chest. I know that when people see the shark scenes in this movie they are going to think they have to be computer generated. But all these sharks in this movie are real."

"Don't mind my eating a tootsie roll. If y'all want one - they're chillin' right over there."

"Now we're gonna take you inside for a little country western jam session."

(This is what Paul says about his character in Into The Blue): " 'Basically I'm this guy who has been chasing this dream for a long time' he says about the project. 'I think there's a lot of similarities between us. He loves the ocean, he loves the element and he can't think of doing anything else. He loves Indiana Jones and he's nuts about Jacques Costeau just like I am. Here he is, he's still a diver and he's 30 years old and he's just hoping that one day he will stumble into the lottery, the lottery being some sunken treasure. He's been holding out his whole life and he's got this girl he's absolutely crazy about, who's played by Jessica Alba. That's him.' "

(Why Paul chose to make Noel): "I've always wanted to do a Christmas movie, and by pure chance I was available for the amount of time it would take to make this film. This story made me laugh and cry, and I think it has the potential to turn into one of those classic Christmas films that people want to revisit year after year."

(Paul on director Chazz Palminteri): "There are times when you feel you need a little encouragement, a pat on the back, or maybe even to be pointed in a different direction, and Chazz does all of that. He also challenges me and doesn't let me get too comfortable, which is important if you're doing a scene seven or eight times. He keeps it fresh."

(Paul on his character): "He's a bit of a hothead, but during the course of the film, I think you find out, and more importantly he finds out, that he's actually a pretty good guy with a really big heart."

(Paul on playing a New York City police officer): "I grew up surrounded by police officers and firemen. The mentalities are the same wherever you go. They come off as a little cocksure, but that's kind of an edge a lot of them have to put on. When you really get to know them and talk to them, you find a lot of these guys are really humble, but they put on that edge because people look to them for help, and they don't wany an icon who's cowering or appears timid."

(Paul on playing the New York attitude): "I think on the East Coast, there's a certain kind of attitude, a certain way people carry themselves. Being on the set with Chazz definetly helps because he's a East Coast as it gets. Then, working with Sonny Marinelli also gave me the benefit of his New York background. I watched the way he and Chazz interacted with each other. The pat on the back, the way they talk with their hands, their mannerisms. Just paying attention to them was an enormous help."

(Paul on miracles): "When my brother was two years old, he drowned. He was pronounced dead for over a minute, and he came back to life. We experienced that miracle as a family, and it's been with me my whole life."

"When you say model, and stuff like that, I just did that as a little kid, when I was a baby, basically."
"I didn't know if acting was what I wanted to do -- It seemed like a wierd career in La-La Land."

"I like people to see me as a regular Joe, 'cause that's what I am."

"You have to take chances i mean you only live one time."

"I like girls who are a lot smarter than I am. They've always got something new to tell you; there's something more to learn." On why he has so many dating choices.

"I love to shoot. I really love guns and all that stuff... I love to bowhunt and shoot the s**t out of stuff."

"We had guys running around with wrenches and sockets stripping down street signs at the last second (before rolling the cameras). I'm sure the locals were stoked - they were driving through stop signs that used to be there." On filming Running Scared in Prague, Czech Republic, which was doubling for a town in New Jersey.

"You sell a movie for Disney, you become the cheesiest guy ever." On promoting new number one family film Eight Below.

"I actually came up with a scam. I went to Magic Mountain and hit up amusement-park tourists. I went up to them and told them I was short a few bucks and was trying to get in the park, and people were giving me five bucks here and 10 bucks there, and before I knew it I had so much money in my pockets that I had to go empty them. I hit up Knott's Berry Farm and Disneyland and I got shooed out of all of them. I was a desperate kid trying different things."
